Balloon Sinuplasty
Balloon Sinuplasty
Balloon sinuplasty, also known as sinus balloon surgery, is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat chronic sinusitis and other sinus-related issues. For patients who experience persistent sinus pressure, nasal congestion, facial pain, and recurring sinus infections that don’t respond well to medication, balloon sinuplasty offers a safe and effective alternative to traditional surgery for sinuses.
The Procedure
During the procedure, a small, flexible balloon catheter is inserted into the affected sinus passage. Once in place, the balloon is gently inflated to widen the sinus opening, helping to restore normal drainage and airflow. The balloon is then deflated and removed, leaving the sinus passage permanently widened without cutting or removing any tissue.
Because balloon sinuplasty does not involve incisions or tissue removal, patients generally experience less bleeding, reduced discomfort, and a much quicker recovery time compared to conventional sinus surgery. Most patients are able to return to normal activities within 24 to 48 hours.
This procedure can be performed in-office under local anesthesia, making it a convenient option for those seeking relief without the downtime of hospital-based surgery. Balloon sinuplasty has been shown to provide long-lasting symptom relief for many patients and is approved by the FDA.
